Planning & Design Centre News – Switch: Open Street Sundays

Switch: Open Street Sundays is a transformative initiative that opens the streets to cyclists, walkers, joggers, and families, demonstrating how our streets can be used to support a more active, sustainable and fun city. Switch encourages people to actively enjoy their city through physical activity and the ability to move around Halifax safely and comfortably.

The first date for Switch: Open Street Sundays is Sunday September 9th, 2012. Letters of notice have recently been distributed to residents and businesses along the proposed Switch route. Planning & Design Centre views this pilot event as an opportunity to demonstrate the potential of open streets events to generate broad and long-term interest in active transportation in HRM. We need the help of all Stepping Up Partners to make Switch a regularly occurring event to achieve the goals of the Stepping Up Strategy.

More information on Switch and the route it will take can be found at www.pdcentre.ca. Switch is always looking for volunteers! Those interested can register at http://tinyurl.com/switch-volunteer
