Key Directions 2012-2013
There are many organizations doing things to make physical activity more accessible within HRM. In some cases it’s the mandate of the organization, but often it is in addition to their regular work or activities. The uniqueness of Stepping Up is that it focuses on working with organizations to build capacity for physical activity. Sharing resources, celebrating successes from other organizations and collaborating on activities encourages more organizations to do something within their capacity to make physical activity the easy choice.
The work of the Stepping Up partnership is based on its original physical activity strategy. Currently there are 4 areas we are focusing on to move our work forward. These Key Directions are grouped under our goals:
- Awareness & Commitment: Advocacy, Awareness and Engagement
- Supportive Environments: Junior high girls and Afterschool time period
- Built and Natural Environment: Active transportation and outdoor activities
- Leadership and Accountability: Access/Barrier removal to physical activity
The Process for Action
The process for implementing the key directions is multi sectorial and collaborative with stakeholders whom have a vested interest in increasing physical activity levels in the Halifax region.
Stepping Up partners are working with stakeholders to provide opportunities to inform/educate on the specific key directions, provide opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange and create action to address issues that impact these key directions in the Halifax Region.
